An academic achievement gap exists in our community. Reading outcomes among Black boys are poor.  Our boys are struggling to perform at grade level in math.

Dream Big! program is our solution to raising expectations and fostering academic motivation to increase life opportunities for boys and young men.

This is how we do it:

  1. We promote a college-bound identity and instill social emotional learning starting at pre-K.

  2. We infuse culturally relevant practices to focus on student strengths and to empower DREAAM boys academically, culturally, socially, and mentally.

  3. We create a counter space that empowers DREAAM boys for school success through a curriculum focused on literacy across subjects, creativity, and solution-thinking.

  4. We value a trauma-informed approach.  With this approach, the staff and volunteers are proactive, encouraging behaviors that promote learning.

  5. We encourage movement, respect, work ethic, leadership, recognition of others, community, and positive brotherhood.

  6. We Rock the DREAAM House!

We have Two program sites:

  • Program sites are housed in churches on the University of Illinois campus

    • University Place Church (K – 3rd grades)

    • McKinley Presbyterian Church (4th – 6th grades)

Dream Big! sites operate Monday-Friday from 3:00pm-6:00pm.  We need committed volunteers to assist with homework, creative arts, robotics, STEM activities, teach a foreign language, or anything else you can think of that may spark interest and academic motivation.

Come on and Rock the DREAAM House!
