Donor-Advised Funds

Consider growing your investment in DREAAM's mission with a contribution from your Donor-Advised Fund.

What is a Donor-Advised Fund?

A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is like a charitable investment account whose sole purpose is supporting charities.  You can take an immediate tax deduction when you contribute cash, stocks, or other assets to a DAF.  These funds can then be invested for tax-free growth, and you can recommend grants to virtually any IRS-qualified public charity.  DAFs provide a simple, tax-efficient way to give, making it easy to support your favorite causes while maximizing your philanthropic giving potential.  Donor-Advised Funds are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle because once established, they are an easy and tax-savvy way to give to not-for-profit organizations like DREAAM. Please consult with your tax advisor for additional information.

How Does a Donor-Advised Fund Work?

To establish the fund, an individual makes an irrevocable, tax-deductible contribution (cash, stock, real estate, etc.) to a sponsoring organization, community foundation, or financial institution.  Individuals receive a tax receipt and tax benefits when funds are deposited into their DAF.  The DAF sponsoring organization oversees those funds as they grow tax-free. The assets within the fund now legally belong to the sponsoring organization, but the DAF account holder retains advisory privileges over disbursements made from the DAF in addition to the investment strategy.

DAF account holders can recommend single or recurring donations to charitable organizations.  Funds in a DAF can only be used to support organizations that are tax-exempt 501(c)(3) and classified as public charities under 509(a).  Once the DAF sponsoring organization approves, the recommended donation is made to a qualified charitable organization, such as DREAAM.

What are the benefits of giving through a Donor-Advised Fund?

  • Support a charity you believe in through strategic giving over time.

  • Maintain family involvement in charitable decisions.

  • Create a legacy.

  • Take advantage of immediate tax benefits with the ability to distribute funds later.

  • Consolidate all your charitable giving.

  • Ensure that you meet and/or exceed standard deductions by combining donations of stock to a DAF.

Making a Grant from Your Donor-Advised Fund

You can make a grant from your existing DAF to make a difference in the lives of our DREAAMers and their families.  You can make single or recurring grants with recognition or total anonymity.  To do so, please sign into your Donor-Advised Fund account to initiate your gift to DREAAM.  Here is some basic information about DREAAM for your reference:

  • The legal name of the organization is "DREAAM Opportunity Center." It is a 501(c)(3), tax-exempt, charitable organization.

  • DREAAM's Federal Tax Identification Number is 46-1643964.

Create a Legacy Gift

The final distribution of contributions remaining in your Donor-Advised Fund after your lifetime can be designated when you create or update your fund.  By completing the beneficiary designation form assigned to your fund, you can name successor advisors to your fund or a specific charity(ies) to receive a portion of your fund balance.
